Roadtrip to Mexico!
When my friends told me they were getting married in Tecate I was like, where?? When they said it’s just a quick drive across the border I was like, what?? To say I was a bit apprehensive about driving across the Mexican border would be putting it lightly, but these are really great friends of mine and this was a wedding I didn’t want to miss. Plus, they frequent this resort so I was willing to trust.
Knowing a group of people who’d be there, we organized some carpools and planned our Mexican wedding road trip adventure. Clearly, I lived to tell the tale. Honestly, it was a bigger feat that I survived this awesome party weekend than the actual border crossing.
After the four-hour drive from LA’s San Fernando Valley, we arrived at Rancho Tecate on Friday afternoon in time for a little poolside cabana fun before heading to the rehearsal dinner, which was hosted in the resort’s wine cellar. The whole place has an old world charm to it, and while I’d normally prefer a more modern décor, I can see why my friends make a habit of vacationing here. The staff is super accommodating, the food is delicious and the prices are reasonable.
The wedding was simple and lovely. Post ceremony sangria and hors d’oeuvres were accompanied by a fabulous Mariachi band. The party… the party was epic. A beautifully white tented reception area was situated by the properties vineyards, nestled between ponds, totally separated from the main resort area, so we didn’t have to worry about noise or privacy. I had the salmon which was great. The bridal party tipped out the wait staff, so we were going strong till 1am. After that they gave us a large conference room for those of us in it for all night shenanigans.
What else can I say… the breakfast buffet while not your standard fare was absolutely delish! Many of the staff speak English but it was helpful to have Spanish speakers in our party. We didn’t end up exploring town, or any of the other amenities Rancho Tecate had to offer, but all things considered, I left completely satisfied with my stay here.
Huge congrats to the newlyweds! Viva la Tecate!
