Step into DTLA’s lively Italian eatery and market Bottega Louie and you’re in for a treat.
Literally – a single bite of one of their picture-perfect petite French macarons and suddenly all is right with the world. But it’s a feast for the eyes as much as it is for the palate.
With color-coded confections lined up neatly in rows and displays of gift boxes whose contents are almost too pretty to eat (…almost), your golden ticket to a real-life version of “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” has arrived, and you’re damn right it’s scrumdidilyumptious.
For brunch, start with the beignets. The accompanying raspberry compote achieves the perfect balance of tart and sweet needed to complement these hot, fresh French doughnuts. With huge chunks of lobster, two poached eggs, and a smoked paprika hollandaise sauce, the Lobster Hash is like Eggs Benedict on steroids. And the thick-cut, juicy Portobello fries are one of a kind.
A strict no-reservations policy and a reputation preceding this place makes at least a bit of a wait pretty inevitable. That means you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy a birthday cake macaron…or six.
